MIMS is a

NO PLACE for HATE Campus!

Groovy lettering Spread love not hate. Retro slogan

The “No Place for Hate" initiative at MIMS aims at fostering inclusive and respectful environments, promoting diversity, and combating discrimination, prejudice, and bullying.

As we strive to create a school culture where all students feel safe, valued, and accepted regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, ability, or other characteristics, we ask you for your support at home. Please talk to your child/children about these characteristics.

Thank you for your continued support in cultivating empathy, understanding, and mutual respect among students and staff, and creating a more welcoming and equitable school environment.

Important Reminders for Dismissal Procedures: Ensuring a Safe and Smooth Process

At MIMS, student safety is our top priority, especially during dismissal. To ensure a safe and efficient process, we kindly ask all parents and guardians to follow these important guidelines:

  • Follow Signs and Use Designated Crosswalks: Please adhere to all signage and use only the designated crosswalks when walking to and from the school. This helps maintain a safe environment for students and staff.

  • Pick-Up Locations: Be sure to go to the appropriate pick-up location for your child. Please know your child’s designated area to streamline the process and avoid congestion.

  • Placards Requirements: Parents/guardians are not allowed to pick up their student/s without the official and current MIMS Placard. This is a security measure we use to ensure that the student is picked up by approved adults. This will be strongly enforced! Lost placards can be replaced at the front office during office hours.

  • Restricted Areas During Dismissal: For safety reasons, certain areas of the car line, marked with (No Parents/Guardians allowed) signs, are off-limits to parents and guardians during dismissal. Please avoid these areas to help us manage the dismissal process efficiently. Please review the map above to make sure that you are adhering to the guidelines.

Lastly, we ask for your patience and cooperation. Our teachers and staff work hard to ensure that all students are dismissed safely. Please be kind and respectful as they facilitate the process and adhere to their friendly reminders.

Thank you for helping us keep dismissal smooth, safe, and organized!

Birthday Lunches and Party Favors

Parents may celebrate their child’s birthday at lunch.

If the birthday falls on a weekend, the parent can choose to celebrate the birthday the day before or after the weekend.

Parents are welcome to have lunch with your child in the cafeteria on his/her birthday. No other students can be removed from their class lunch table.

In lieu of food items, parents/birthday students can distribute “goodie bags” to ALL of your child’s classmates (in the homeroom). Cupcakes and cakes are not allowed.

Out of respect for limited instructional time and space, in-class birthday parties will not be permitted on campus in the cafeteria, at recess, or in the classroom. We do not allow the delivery of gifts such as flowers, balloons, etc. to classrooms.

BE A VIPS

for MIMS!

Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) is a dedicated program that brings together parents, community members, and other volunteers to support and enhance the educational experience in our schools. Through VIPS, volunteers play a vital role in assisting teachers, organizing events, mentoring students, and contributing to various school activities. This collaboration not only enriches the learning environment but also fosters a strong sense of community and partnership within our schools.

To learn more about the VIPS program, please follow the link below!

VIPS PROCESS AND APPLICATION LINK!

As a reminder, parents/guardians MUST be VIPS-approved to volunteer at MIMS, chaperone field trips, and volunteer at school events.

The background check can take up to 2 weeks, so don’t wait until the last minute. Once you complete the application on the link, the last step is to bring your driver’s license or other government-issued ID to the front office.

Last week, we held a Middle School assembly to review MIMS behavior expectations and our devices and cellphone policies. The assembly focused on reinforcing the importance of respectful behavior, responsibility, and maintaining a positive learning environment. We also reminded students of the rules regarding the use of personal devices and cellphones during school hours, ensuring they are used appropriately and do not disrupt the educational process.

We ask for your support from home in reinforcing these expectations. By working together, we can help our students make positive choices and stay focused on their learning.

Thank you for your continued partnership!

MIMS

Electronic Device & cellphone policy!

Electronic Device & cellphone policy!

Here at MIMS, we are committed to fostering a productive and safe learning environment. To ensure this, we have outlined the following guidelines regarding the use of technology and devices by students on campus.

Student Use of Computers and Internet:

All students are required to have a Loan Agreement signed by their parents. Computers and internet access are to be used strictly for instructional purposes.

Student Use of Cell Phones:

  • The use of cell phones by students is prohibited during the school day.
  • Cell Phones must be in students’ backpacks when instructional day begins, and not on their person.
  • Use of cellphones during transitions, restroom breaks, and lunch periods are prohibited. Students may use classroom telephones with the permission of the classroom teacher.
  • Parents should refrain from communicating with their students on their cell phones during the instructional day. In case of an emergency, parents must contact the front office.
  • School is not responsible for any loss of students' technology and/or electronic devices.

Student Use of Other Technology:

  • Devices such as headphones, earbuds/air pods, music players, recording devices, smart watches, iPads, Kindles, and cameras may not be used in the classroom without a teacher’s permission or on campus without a staff member’s permission.
  • Students may not take pictures in the classroom without the teacher's permission. Photos of other students can only be taken if those students have given their consent.
  • Posting pictures of MIMS staff, students, and facilities on the internet is strictly prohibited.
  • At no time may students access social apps while on campus.

We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines to maintain a focused and respectful educational environment.

Tardies Impact Instruction:

Help us Ensure that our Students Don’t Miss

Valuable Learning Time!

Being on time is a habit and lifelong skill we want to instill in all our students. It is crucial for starting the school day off right, as it lays the foundation for a productive learning day!

As outlined in the 2024-25 Student Code of Conduct, being tardy to class is initially considered a Level I offense. However, repeated tardies can escalate to Level II or III infractions, with excessive absences or tardies being treated as a Level III infraction.

Since MIMS is a magnet school with students from across Houston, the administration will treat the 10th tardy to school or class as a Level I infraction under the Student Code of Conduct. Tardies will be recorded and addressed accordingly, beginning as a Level I infraction. Repeated tardies may escalate to a Level II or III infraction.

In middle school, attendance and tardies are recorded each period. In elementary school, attendance and tardies are recorded at the start of the day. An elementary student is considered tardy if they arrive after 8:35 AM.

Instruction begins at 8:30 AM.

While we understand that occasional circumstances may cause students to be tardy, it's crucial that these instances remain exceptions rather than the norm. Minimizing tardies helps students start their day with their peers and ensures they don’t miss valuable instructional time. Let's work together to prioritize timely arrival for our students.
