Parents are welcome to have lunch with your child in the cafeteria on his/her birthday. No other students can be removed from their class lunch table.
In lieu of food items, parents/birthday students can distribute “goodie bags” to ALL of your child’s classmates (in the homeroom). Cupcakes and cakes are not allowed.

BE A VIPS
for MIMS!
Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) is a dedicated program that brings together parents, community members, and other volunteers to support and enhance the educational experience in our schools. Through VIPS, volunteers play a vital role in assisting teachers, organizing events, mentoring students, and contributing to various school activities. This collaboration not only enriches the learning environment but also fosters a strong sense of community and partnership within our schools.
To learn more about the VIPS program, please follow the link below!
VIPS PROCESS AND APPLICATION LINK!
As a reminder, parents/guardians MUST be VIPS-approved to volunteer at MIMS, chaperone field trips, and volunteer at school events.
The background check can take up to 2 weeks, so don’t wait until the last minute. Once you complete the application on the link, the last step is to bring your driver’s license or other government-issued ID to the front office.
Last week, we held a Middle School assembly to review MIMS behavior expectations and our devices and cellphone policies. The assembly focused on reinforcing the importance of respectful behavior, responsibility, and maintaining a positive learning environment. We also reminded students of the rules regarding the use of personal devices and cellphones during school hours, ensuring they are used appropriately and do not disrupt the educational process.
We ask for your support from home in reinforcing these expectations. By working together, we can help our students make positive choices and stay focused on their learning.
Thank you for your continued partnership!

Electronic Device & cellphone policy!
Electronic Device & cellphone policy!
Here at MIMS, we are committed to fostering a productive and safe learning environment. To ensure this, we have outlined the following guidelines regarding the use of technology and devices by students on campus.
Student Use of Computers and Internet:
All students are required to have a Loan Agreement signed by their parents. Computers and internet access are to be used strictly for instructional purposes.
Student Use of Cell Phones:
Student Use of Other Technology:
We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to these guidelines to maintain a focused and respectful educational environment.
Tardies Impact Instruction:
Help us Ensure that our Students Don’t Miss
Valuable Learning Time!
Being on time is a habit and lifelong skill we want to instill in all our students. It is crucial for starting the school day off right, as it lays the foundation for a productive learning day!
As outlined in the 2024-25 Student Code of Conduct, being tardy to class is initially considered a Level I offense. However, repeated tardies can escalate to Level II or III infractions, with excessive absences or tardies being treated as a Level III infraction.
Since MIMS is a magnet school with students from across Houston, the administration will treat the 10th tardy to school or class as a Level I infraction under the Student Code of Conduct. Tardies will be recorded and addressed accordingly, beginning as a Level I infraction. Repeated tardies may escalate to a Level II or III infraction.
In middle school, attendance and tardies are recorded each period. In elementary school, attendance and tardies are recorded at the start of the day. An elementary student is considered tardy if they arrive after 8:35 AM.
Instruction begins at 8:30 AM.
While we understand that occasional circumstances may cause students to be tardy, it's crucial that these instances remain exceptions rather than the norm. Minimizing tardies helps students start their day with their peers and ensures they don’t miss valuable instructional time. Let's work together to prioritize timely arrival for our students.
