Cellular Phone & Other Electronic Devices

(OED) Administrative Policy

Test security is an important component of the

state testing program.

To meet new state-mandated security requirements, during STAAR administration at MIMS, the following will be implemented:

  • It is strongly recommended for students to leave their cell phones and other electronic devices, including smartwatches, AT HOME on the days of state testing.

  • Students who choose to bring their phones and/or other electronic devices to school on STAAR test days will be required to turn in their phones and/or electronic devices (including smartwatches) to the test proctor BEFORE testing begins. All devices will be returned to the student at the end of test administration. Students who bring their cell phones to school and do not turn in their cell phones to the proctor will risk possible disciplinary action and invalidation of test results.

  • Cameras, i-Pods, Apple-type watches, handheld electronic organizers are all considered “Other Electronic Devices” and are prohibited on STAAR test days.

Students, you have worked too hard to have your test results voided, so leave your phones and Other Electronic Devices (OED) at home during testing.

Reminder: Cell Phone Policy

Thank you to all our students who have followed the district cell phone policy. We have recently seen an uptick of visible airpods and cell phones, so we want to take this opportunity to reiterate the district cell phone policy.

All electronic devices including but not limited to laptops, cellphones, headphones, earbuds/airpods, music players, recording devices, smart watches, ipads, kindle, etc. must be turned off and put away for the duration of the school day.

Cell phones, laptops, and electronic devices may be used on campus only with a staff member’s permission and/or supervision, and only for a given academic circumstance. Confiscated devices (those used without permission during the school day, etc.) may be retrieved by the student's parents from the appropriate administrator immediately after school and only after the designated time listed below.

  • No pre-registration needed; however, parents must bring their government-issued ID to sign in at the front office.
  • Visitors not listed in the student’s HISD Connect must be accompanied by the parent to attend Friday lunches.
  • Parents will not be permitted to eat at your child’s classroom lunch table.
  • Please do not provide food to any children other than your own.
  • Parents please exit through the Dragon Door at the end of your child’s lunch time.
  • Refrain from using your cell phone to take photos and/or videos due to potential media restrictions of other students.
